why are [costume drama] films about repressed sexuality far more erotic than explicit films?

Because Its not about what you can have, its about what you can’t have, and that is sexual dynamite!

How do psychiatrists differentiate between what is mental illness and what is normal human reaction to stress?

Posted in Drama by admin on June 4, 2007.

Now that I’ve been around people from various cultures and seen the different attitudes towards mental illness, I’m wondering if there’s a worldwide standard followed by the medically trained.

Standards differ from country to country. In the US psychiatrists and psychologists diagnosis mental disorders according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM for short. The latest edition is the DSM-IV-TR). Although requirements for diagnosis obviously differ from disorder to disorder, the common criteria is that the disorder must cause the person who has it either mental anguish/stress or interfere with their daily life (which includes job, school, and relationships). Most of the time one or both of these conditions are going to be met. However, if neither are then the person cannot be diagnosed with a disorder, even if its painfully obvious that they have one.

what is the difference between anthropology and psychology?

Posted in Drama by admin on May 21, 2007.

Anthropology is the scientific study of the origin, development, and varieties of human beings and their societies, particularly so-called primitive societies while psychology is the science dealing with mental phenomena and processes. Psychologists study emotions, perception, intelligence, consciousness, and the relationship between these phenomena and processes and the work of the glands and muscles. Psychologists are also interested in diseased or disordered mental states, and some psychologists provide therapy for individuals. In the United States, however, psychologists, unlike psychiatrists, are not medical doctors.

Directed to you Americans, Do you think that you make better funnier films.?

Posted in Drama by admin on May 11, 2007.

And do you think we have different kinds of humour,You make better more lavish films then us, but; lacking in realist

UK films are often smarter and deeper in meaning and character that many of our films. I think it’s a hard comparison because we produce so man films and they cover the full spectrum of from the devine to the rediculous.

Personally, I enjoy English humor and drama and find myself getting pulled into the plots. But it’s hard to dismiss movies like Gladiator and Hamlet as being shallow and crass also.

I’d say we are both pretty darned good at it, Agreed?

BTW, bit of trivia. Do you know why the film industry developed in Hollywood? Because of the light quality. Initially, land in Hollywood was considered ‘junk land’ and small chuncks of it were given away in cereal boxes. Weird how things work out.

Psychology vs. Psychiatry: Which Is Better?

Posted in Drama by admin on April 17, 2007.

I really want to talk to someone but not into meds. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for all your answers and well wishes! I’m will be looking into the right doctor with confidence! Good night to all!

if you are not into medications, a psychologist is your option. psychologists can not prescribe medication, and they work with people that have a cognitive disease, or the way a person thinks. psychiatrists are good for people that have a major mental illness, that is thought to be of an organic illness. it is not a case of who is better, but who is better suited for the specific disorder they are treating. sometimes both are necessary to return a person back to good health. hope this helps your question.

Lesbian Movies?

Posted in Drama by admin on April 7, 2007.

Can someone please tell me about any colorful (not old) lesbian films? I dont want too much sex in there. I just want a lesbian drama- love story. In english, obviously.

Here are a few of my favorites:

* Incredibly True Adventures of Two Girls In Love (classic, very sweet, very tame)
* DEBS (very cute, no sex. More of a comedy than drama)
* Desert Hearts (great classic lesbo drama, very little sex)
* If These Walls Could Talk 2 (great movie, would def recommend, but has two significant sex scenes. Won an emmy)
* Gia (great drama, won a golden globe - significant sex scenes)
* But I’m a Cheerleader (very sweet, quite tame)
* Better than Chocolate
* Lost and Delirious (great drama, quite tame)
* My Summer Of Love
* Imagine Me & You
* Loving Annabelle (my personal fav)
* Kissing Jessica Stein

Psychiatry or Psychology?

Posted in Drama by admin on March 31, 2007.

I need to make an appointment with a doctor for depression & eating disorder. From which specialities (Psychiatry or Psychology) should I choose a doctor from? What is the difference?

A psychiatrist is a physician who specializes in psychiatry and is certified in treating mental illness.[1] As part of their evaluation of the patient, psychiatrists are one of only a few mental health professionals who may prescribe psychiatric medication, conduct physical examinations, order and interpret laboratory tests and electroencephalograms, and may order brain imaging studies such as computed tomography or computed axial tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and positron emission tomography scanning.

A psychologist is a scientist and/or clinician who studies psychology, the systematic investigation of the human mind, including behavior and cognition. Psychologists are usually categorized under a number of different fields, the most well-recognized being clinical psychologists, who provide mental health care, and research psychologists, who collect information on people’s minds.

Why are so many gay men drama queens?

Posted in Drama by admin on March 21, 2007.

Time and time again I have crossed paths with gay men who act like drama queens. I am by no means homophobic, but this is a pattern I have noticed among gay men in particular. What is the deal? Isn’t it drama enough to be a gay man in this world? Why make everything a soap opera?

I guess I don’t know many gay drama queens. I just know female teenage ones (namely my daughters).

I don’t have the luxury of making my daughters go away; however, I have found if you ignore drama it tends to stop. Just don’t feed into it. Your friends will find someone else to tell their soap stories too.

why is there a second capote movie?

Posted in Drama by admin on March 20, 2007.

It’s a coincidence. The films aren’t made by the same people and don’t star the same actors - they just happen to be about the same subject.

This happens fairly often in Hollywood - two or more films will come out at the same time on the same subject. Think of Armageddon and Deep Impact a few years ago, or during the 80s when there was a glut of films about children magically becoming adults (Big, Vice Versa, Freaky Friday, etc).
